When can I start Baby & Me Yoga?
This depends on you, your birth, and your recovery. If you had a straight forward vaginal birth, you can start this yoga class from 6 weeks after having your baby. If you had a caesarean birth, or 3rd/4th degree tears, or an episiotomy, forceps or ventouse delivery, I would recommend starting after 10 weeks (and also discussing this with your care provider).
You need to have had your 6 week check up with your GP and have been given no reason not to start yoga.
Personally, I recommend talking to a women’s health physio such as The Mum Physio before starting any exercise after having a baby. This isn’t a requirement, just something I recommend!
Is my baby too old for Baby & Me Yoga?
Because the space I teach in is completely baby-friendly, you can keep bringing your baby to Baby & Me Yoga even when they start crawling. Once they can walk, you can start thinking about kids yoga!
I didn’t give birth, is this class right for me?
Absolutely – we are all parents and so we have a lot in common (sleepless nights, emotional rollercoaster, adapting to a new way of life…!) So anyone caring for a new baby will get a lot out of coming to the class in terms of making friends, enjoying some exercise and sharing the journey of parenting with others.
This class is specifically a post-natal yoga class, so it is more gentle than a regular yoga class and is going to specifically target common areas of concern for people who have recently given birth (like the pelvic floor). If you don’t mind that, then please feel very welcome!
What do I need to bring to class?
Please bring a small blanket, or muslin for your baby, and a portable changing mat if you have one. Other than that, just the usual enormous bag of stuff you need to leave the house nowadays!?
You can bring your pram, car seat, carrier etc – we have space for all of those things!
